| | | Simon Barker and Jaimie Shorten are Chartered Architects working across a wide range of sectors, including housing, schools, commercial projects and the arts. We enjoy this diversity and the careful engagement needed to successfully respond to the wide range of opportunities brought to us by our clients. Professional architectural practice involves a range of necessary activities that are interdependent: from examining outline alternatives and feasibility, to design, working with models and prototypes, through to the control of the building process on site, costs and timing. We believe that good architecture is made through a thoroughly-formulated brief developed in conversation with clients and users. The relationship of the building to its surroundings, and well-ordered construction are also essential; these are more important than working in a predefined style or technology. We believe that to design and build in a sustainable manner is an integral part of the making of architecture and not an optional extra or choice.
