| | | This project, funded by Arts Council England, South East, was carried out by Simon Barker in collaboration with fine artist Stephen Turner, film maker Abbe Leigh-Fletcher and poet Ros Barber. It began with a lengthy process of exploration, walking extensively on the Isle of Sheppey, collecting material for the project. This formed the basis of a series of collaborations which explore sense of place and included two books, a film, physical text works, structures and ephemera. The illustrated project is a sea wall bench/shelter made from mirror-polished stainless steel, which reflects the sky, its presence becoming more or less apparent with changing light conditions. A second project for a mirrored structure on the sea wall was for a small temporary cinema/camera obscura intended for showing short films of Sheppey landscapes made by Abbe, alternating with camera obscura images of the immediate surroundings. | |
