The Place, Camber Sands

The Place, Camber Sands
This is a new detached building to provide additional hotel rooms and conference facilities at The Place in Camber Sands. The building is designed to achieve a high degree of sustainability in its operation and sourcing of materials. It is the sixth in a sequence of buildings by the practice that make extensive use of local coppiced Sweet Chestnut for cladding and joinery.
The choice of materials and forms has been carefully made to respond to the unique context: the railway carriage-like elevation, the naturally weathered timber cladding, the reflective, red nautical paint of the undercroft and the black roof cladding.
