Education Buildings
This new facility is sited at the edge of the school on the site of a disused prefabricated classroom block. The new building defines new spaces with a sense of security and enclosure between it and the existing buildings. Its form is a development of a familiar vernacular, not a romantic notion of pretty buildings in the countryside.
The timber-framed structure allows for efficient and sustainable construction and incorporates recycled newspaper insulation with Sweet Chestnut cladding and windows, specially developed for this project. The gabled form repeats the pattern of other flint buildings on the site; as its materials weather, it will gradually change colour and harmonise with its context.
