Extensive improvements were carried out at this large comprehensive school, working within very restricted budgets. The toilets were identified as a key area which was the source of great dissatisfaction among staff and pupils; most of the budget was spent there. A failing 1960s music room was upgraded with new insulation. The existing steel windows were repaired and fitted with double glazing with a range of different surface treatments to the glass or solid insulated panels to reduce the effect of vandalism, control heat loss and solar gain, and to create a sense of privacy in the room without sacrificing an interesting quality of light. |
