Penthouse flats, Eastbourne

Penthouse flats, Eastbourne
Two new penthouse flats were added to a 1950s block of flats at eighth floor level, facing the sea. The construction had to be sufficiently robust to allow for driving rain (including rain travelling upwards), wind loadings and the chemical action of salt. The total weight of the building was pared to a practical minimum to reduce loadings on the existing structure, and to ensure ease of construction at this height.
